Are There Any Side Effects Of PRP Procedure?

Dr. Deepam Shah practising at Viva Aesthetic Clinic says that, For the first 1-2 days, there may be some pain, and redness, but this will gradually subside. So far, no other side effects have been reported. Here are some possible side effects associated with the PRP procedure:
  1. Pain or Discomfort: Some individuals may experience mild pain, discomfort, or tenderness at the injection sites. This is typically temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications if needed.
  2. Swelling or Bruising: It is possible to experience mild swelling or bruising at the injection sites. This is usually temporary and resolves on its own within a few days or weeks.
  3. Infection: Although rare, there is a minimal risk of infection associated with any injection-based procedure. Following proper sterile techniques and ensuring the use of sterile equipment can help minimize this risk.
  4. Allergic Reaction: Since PRP is derived from the patient's own blood, the risk of an allergic reaction is extremely low. Allergic reactions to one's own blood components are very uncommon.
  5. Nerve Damage: In rare cases, there is a small risk of nerve damage near the injection site. This can cause temporary or, in extremely rare cases, permanent numbness or tingling. However, when performed by a skilled and experienced healthcare professional, the risk is minimal.
